It was decided by the members of the Meridianus Nexion to make public the techniques of Internal Magick that have been collectively developed over the past decade. The aim is to add to the collective knowledge of the sinister path as detailed by the Order of Nine Angles and others.
The Meridianus Nexion has no official connection with the Order of Nine Angles or other left hand path groups. Our isolation is partly geographic, and partly through choice to follow our individual paths in silence and secrecy.
Meridianus Nexion 118yf
As has been written in Naos and other manuscripts, internal magick is magick used to bring about personal development of consciousness, that is to alter the consciousness of an individual. Before beginning this exercise it is worth spending considerable time on the visualization exercises given in Naos to develop the basic skills. The technique described herein is akin to Jungian "Active Imagination", and has been refined through years of practice.
The Jungian term "Active Imagination" gives the key to this process, which is use of the imagination. It needs to be remembered that the term visualization, while refering specifically to internal imagery seen in the mind's eye, has been generalized to refer to what amounts to "active imagination" of the various senses. Depending on the individual other senses may be more prominent, such as auditory, or olfactory. The aim is to cultivate, over time, all internal senses to as great a degree as possible. Note: From the perspective of this technique "imagination" is not illusionary fantasy, but an active process enaging the inner faculties and working closely with intuition.
This technique of internal magick also shares similarities with various forms of self hypnosis. It is also important to remember that for this process to be effective it is not necessary or desirable to lose total awareness of surroundings in a deep trance. Likewise, the aim is not full "astral projection" or an "out of body experience." It is only necessary to actively engage the imagination as fully as possible. This allows for the same techniques to be used while working physical ceremonies and rituals, where the entire external ritual also engages the willed use of the imagination to activate internal energies. For example, in a ritual dedicated to one or several of the Dark Gods, the physical form of the god may be visualised. This in turn aids in directly apprehending the acausal forces and archetypal forms via increased awareness and development of the skills of focusing attention inwards.
The basics of the technique are simple, and do not have any specific requirements. While learning it is desirable to have a quiet location where you will not be disturbed by other people or pets. In time, it is possible to use this technique with the eyes open, including while engaged in other activities. It is outside the scope of this document to detail all the advanced techniques which lead on from these basics. At present they are not written down and are generally instructed and demonstrated by an Adept to those who have demonstrated proficiency in the basic techniques. Many of these things can be intuitively learned through persistant use of the basic techniques, although in the future, should the need arise, these additional techniques and tips will be written down and made public.
Note: It is possible to record a set of instructions to listen to, in a similar fashion to the S.I.R. recording. This has its place and purpose, however the aim of this document is to encourage to spontaneous use of creative imagination and intuition, not one guided by the logical mind.
Sit or lay down in a comfortable position. Close your eyes, and allow yourself to feel relaxed. Taking a few deep breaths can aid in this. Visualise a scene - either allowing one to spontaneously form, or imagine the necessary surroundings - perhaps a real place you need to explore, or an imaginary place such as a cave, mountain top, or another realm. Start by focusing on smaller portions of the imagery, perhaps looking at your own feet or hands first. See what you are wearing, what clothing. Take some time to focus and see the various parts of the scenery in as much detail as possible. Begin paying attention to the various sounds and smells. Feel the surface of ground beneath you, or the shoes you are wearing. If you are wearing clothing or holding an item, get a good sense of how it feels. Begin to explore the surroundings. Move throughout the landscape and look around. Be sure to fully experience the landscape. Look, listen, touch, taste, and smell all that is around you. Call upon entities who inhabit this realm and talk with them. You can talk with the entity out loud and could record this if you have the means, otherwise just communicate telepathically - using your imagined senses of speaking and hearing. Keep in mind that the aim is to learn about yourself, and the landscape that lies within. Entities you interact with may be real people, those you know, or those you have never met. They may be Dark Gods, mythical entities, or something you've never heard of before.
In much the same way that S.I.R. takes you on a guided journey through the seven spheres of the Septenary, it is possible to undertake journies to realms which represent each of the spheres, or the paths that connect them. In the beginning it is advisable to pick only one sphere or path to work with at a time, so as to explore it as fully as possible. No time limit needs to be set, but expect that a thorough exploration may take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. You can use the basic technique above, purely imagining you entry into the sphere or pathway, or combine it with symbol concentration (described below) to initiate the journey. See also "Dark Pathways: Further Notes" and "Pathworking II Brief Example" documents by Lyceus.
Note: It is quite possible to use chant and vibration along with this "active imagination" process - combining physical and internal methods only enhances the experience - the magickian being a nexion between two worlds.
This technique is used to fill the consciousness with a symbol so that it may become the doorway and focal point for a journey. Any symbol at all may be used. Some common ones include the sinister tarot, sigils of the Dark Gods (see: Caelethi: Black Book of Satan II), or characters from magickal alphabets such as the Runes. Generally a single character, sigil or glyph (unless using picture such as from the sinister tarot) is inscribed on a 4" by 4" piece of card. This card can then be propped up in front of you, or held in the hands.
As with the basic technique, sit or lay down in a comfortable position. Keeping your eyes open stare at the image on the piece of card. Keep your gaze focused on the symbol, staring fixedly at it. Keep your breathing deep and regular. Allow the symbol to fill your conscious minds, excluding all other thoughts or images. When you intuitively feel the your mind is as full of this symbol as possible, close your eyes. Now, see this symbol glowing before you. Visualise it becoming a portal through which you can pass, and move through it. Continue with the technique as normal.
Begin as normal. Instead of allowing imagery to be spontaneous, visualize the specific setting and items relevant to the ritual or ceremony you are to perform. Build up the scene, seeing yourself dressed in the appropriate coloured robes, with the required symbols and items for the ritual set up before you. Smell the appropriate incense or fragrances associated with the ritual or setting. When ready, begin visualising yourself undertaking the ritual. You may speak aloud the words, or just imagine saying them.
Any of the rituals given in B.B.S. may be performed in this manner, including imagining other temple members being present. While this isn't a substitute for working directly with a temple or coven, it may allow an individual to gain some insight through the rituals performance even if unable to physically meet with others, for instance if incarcerated. If already a member of a temple or coven, then this visualised version could be performed at the same time that the actual temple members are meeting and performing the ritual in the physical.
The ONA manuscript entitled "The Forbidden Alchemy" outlines the basic process for an "inner alchemy" based around the Septenary System. It discusses aspects of the various stages, which are more fully covered in Naos. Integral to the early stages of the process it is necessary for the initiate to find a partner of the opposite sex to work with. The manuscript states, "[s]everal of these stages involve the individual (the 'alchemist') in finding and working with a companion of the opposite sex, some of the work being of a sexual nature. This itself is an exploration of consciousness: a confrontation with the anima/animus..."
Over time, Meridianus Nexion has developed a powerful process for assisting in manifesting a companion, based around techniques described in the the first part of this document. There are certain benefits of using this technique over the common methods of finding a partner.
First of all, the process begins as an internal process, an act of internal magick, which through the desire to undertake the ways of the sinister path, and an application of the initiates's will, a real and tangible result is brought about - a magickal meeting. Internally, the process of confronting the anima/animus is started, and the initiate can catch a glimpse of the internal processes and state of the contra-gender aspect of themselves.
Secondly, and intrinsically tied to the first point, the physical companion who the initiate meets is a perfect physical counterpart for their anima/animus. In this way, the ego of the initiate is bypassed, and the companion is not chosen for looks, intellect, or emotional reasons. In fact the companion is not "chosen" at all per se. The companion is attracted to the aspirant through magick, and because they will gain equally from the meeting and resulting experiences.
It must be remembered that what is important is dedication to the process of exploring the inner potentials, and realizing and manifesting the latent energies of the psyche. The experiences had via a companion manifested through magick are often more intense than experiences through a companion met through mundane means.
Likewise, the intention of manifesting a companion in this way is of mutual benefit to the companion. Some who have worked with this technique have been frustrated by the fact that their companion doesn't match some pre-existing intellectual criteria or belief they have of what a "good companion" needs to be like. Dilemmas arise for initiates when they discover that their companion doesn't share their interests, and conflicts (internal and external) arise. From the perspective of the Meridianus Nexion this is all vitaly important in the process. The external conflict is a mirror of the inner conflict. Likewise, the inner conflicts which arise are indications of beliefs and patterns which have developed up to this point. And as mention at the beginning of part one: internal magick is magick used to bring about personal development of consciousness, that is to alter the consciousness of an individual.
There is no way to intellectualize this process. The important part is the experiencing of it, and the resulting wisdom that comes through "trial and error". Although guidance may be sort from an Adept experienced in this process, only suggestions and hints can be given, as the process is unique to each individual who undertakes it.
It is intended that an initiate already has considerable experience with the basic techniques before being introduced to this technique.
On an appropriate day, begin as normal. Go to a suitable location, allowing a little time to build up the scene in your mind's eye. Call upon an appropriate Dark God/Goddess for this type of working. Spend some time watching the form that the Dark God /Goddess appears before you. Feel their energy, and allow yourself to tune into it. State your purpose for calling upon them, and call for their guidance in this task. Allow yourself to become very focused on this task, of attracting a suitable companion for the purposes of your sinister unfolding. Imagine an energy beam, like a tentacle, extending out from your chest and extending out beyond the distant horizon until it connects with a another being - the companion you seek. Now retract this energy, and feel and sense the approach of the companion, as they are drawn in towards you. When they are standing in front of you, introduce yourself. Talk with him/her and explain what it is you seek. Negotiate with them to meet you in the physical - if they are willing (if they are not willing, dismiss them and repeat the processes until a willing candidate is found). Then ask this person to hold hands with you, so you can feel each others energy flowing. Spend some time with this, again talking, and always keeping in mind the purpose, to meet in the physical. It is a good idea to put a time limit on how soon this meeting should occur (within 14 days is generally a good mark, although experience has shown that if working correctly results can be anywhere from hours to a few days). When you feel the time is right, immediately open your eyes - do not do anything "internally" to 'end' the process you have begun. No time should be given for 'grounding' type techniques, and the whole process should now be set aside - do not allow your conscious mind to dwell upon it. As soon as possible go back to usual activities.
It is left for the Initiate to pad out the technique with the appropriate details. Proficiency at this type of work should already have been developed prior to undertaking this particular working, and therefore a understanding of some of the dynamics and 'missing' pieces will be obvious.
As this process is not an intectual one, there is no need to pay conscious attention to meeting the companion in the physical. A meeting will occur, and both individuals will know that something is going on - there will be a distinct Wyrdness to the experience - which can be very intense. The initiate - the one who worked this process - must be the one who takes responsibility for following through with the process. The magickal working will create the connexion necessary, however this is not a technique for merely conjuring a sexual experience with a compliant and submissive person. As the companion chosen may have no prior knowledge with the occult or sinister path, the whole experience could be rather frightening to them, and it will require skill on the Initiates part to successfully complete the physical side to this working. Apart from personal experience, the advice of an Adept experienced with the process may be of some assistance.
Keep in mind the aims and intents of working with a companion - specifically the confrontation of the anima/animus. If you continue working Internal Magick (and thereby changing and growing), and your partner does not engage in similar activities, growth will undoubtedly be apart, rather than together. Be prepared to move on, and don't get caught up in the purely indulgent physicalness of the relationship. See below.
It will be obvious to those who work this technique that it can be modified and adapted to many other purposes other than attracting a companion. Work with it as you will, but remember the aim is Internal Magick - that is changing and developing your own consciousness.
Interacting with the process has two separate but important uses. The first, and most obvious use is to continue working in a conscious way with the process of Anima/Animus confrontation that was initiated through the process outlined in Part 2.
The less obvious, and vitally important, aspect is the use of this process by those Initiates who are incarcerated. Although there are many benefits to having a physical contra-gender companion to work with, it is possible to become sufficiently aware of the inner processes through internal magick alone - necessity being the mother of invention. Likewise, depending on situation of the incarcerated, the process can still be worked as in part 2, with results varying due to belief or circumstance.
Whether or not a physical companion is involved, it is still important and beneficial to the personal development of consciousness to work internally on this process. By this method an Initiate starts to gain a conscious awareness of their contra-gender side.
The key to successfully interacting with the process is creativity and intuition. There are no set rules, and only experimentation will lead to a true understanding and appreciation of what can be achieved. While the focus here is on the Anima/Animus, the process can actually be applied to any internal aspect or component of an Initiate or Adept's experiences. By actively taking the time to explore the inner dimensions a great amount of time and effort can be saved, and wisdom attained. Remember, that while these techniques may seem "passive", the forces invoked and stirred up can in fact be equally as dangerous as physical experiences. Consider also that if a companion can be manifested in the physical through working an internal process, that all manner of experiences (positive or negative) can be unleashed upon the Fool who dares tread these dangerous inner paths. It is not unheard of for an unbalanced individual to experience a psychotic break, which could in turn lead to sectioning under various so-called "Mental Health" acts, or even death (e.g. suicide).
The basic technique outlined in Part 1 of this document is all that is needed to interact with the process, and the basics of interacting with the companion are similar to those outlined in Part 2. The main points concentrated on are the inner dialogue and interaction with inner companion. The aim is not to escape the dynamics of a physical relationship, but rather to enhance them. Likewise, the aim is not to "put a spell on" the companion (the inner "companion" being the Initiate's own Anima/Animus - and the physical companion being a touchstone for the inner state of affairs). Cultivate the inner relationship as you would a physical relationship. The aim is to begin to gain an understanding of one's own psyche, and thereby bring about personal development of consciousness.
Remember that as the inner world is full of symbolism and hidden meaning, so to is the physical. One thing that sets the Initiate and Adept apart is the later's ability to figure out the meanings behind the symbols, and how to transform and utilize them for purposes of magick (internal, external, aeonic, cosmic, etc). Symbols are concepts, beliefs, and forms - and as such change, adapt, evolve and mutate. It is like the old saying, "can't see the wood for the trees" - don't get lost in the symbols so much that you don't grasp the essence behind them.
